Hydro Electric Technician, DR Congo

Organization: IMCK-CPC


Ecumenical Partner: CPC

Pattern of Service: Mission Volunteer (International)

Position description: To assist the CPC in renovating and maintaining hydro-electric facilities, general maintenance and project development at IMCK, Lubondaie, Bibanga and other CPC stations.

Essential job tasks and responsibilities: 1) The primary task is to train national staff for operation and maintenance of the hydro-electric system
2) Interface with funding bodies – MBF, PCUSA, etc.
3) Train staff to develop and direct repair and renovation projects
4) Train staff to assure ongoing maintenance of hydro facilities
5) Seek additional funding and volunteer staff or permanent staff for the future
6) Assist funding bodies with funding information, photos, and stories for fund raising purposes and train staff to provide such information
7) Train staff to respond to maintenance and project planning needs for CPC hospitals/programs
8) Train staff to assist with project planning, development and buildings for water projects
9) Seek to build connections with consultants who can continue to advise the national staff on technical matters as needed for future sustainability

Mission description: The CPC witnesses in word and deeds to the love of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior in the Congo. The work is carried out in the preaching of the gospel and teaching the word of God. The church is also involved in the work of teaching, healing, and community development for the people of the Congo.

Length of service: 2 years renewable

End date: 12/2019

Description of program location: IMCK and Lubondai are mission stations in the West Kasai of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Bibanga is a mission station in the East Kasai. IMCK is the site of a regional hospital and nursing schools that has both a high school level, ITM, and university level, ISTM, institutions. Lubondai and Bibanga are also regional hospitals and also have ITM (high school level nursing schools).

Required experience, licenses and certifications: Mechanical, civil, or electrical engineer or trained/experience technician with experience in hydro power plants.
If above is not feasible, maintenance technician/mechanic able to interface effectively with volunteer consultant engineers in USA and Europe

Required education and languages: Required education and languages:
University preferred
English, French desirable but not mandatory

Position benefits:

Housing: Will be provided by IMCK, and by Bibanga and Lubondaie while making visits
