Short-Term Intercultural Youth Ministry in Canada

Pattern of Service: Short-Term Volunteer (International)

Position description: The volunteer would be part of an inter-cultural team living and working together in an interracial youth ministry in Toronto, Canada.

Teams will work in two inner-city communities that have large numbers of at-risk youth

Essential job tasks and responsibilities: 1. Actively participate in team.

2. Participate in church life of sponsoring congregation/s of the United Church of Canada and the Presbyterian Church of Canada.

3. Work with youth using your skills in sports, music, counseling, bible-study, relationship-building, community development and more.

Mission description: CANACOM is a community of twelve denominations: three North-American churches and nine Caribbean churches. In this program, Caribbean and North American Christians join together in mission endeavors in both regions.

Length of service:  6 months

Start date: 07/2005

End date:  12/2005

Ecclesiastical status:

Required education and languages: English.
College degree or equivalent life experience.

Position benefits: Minimal risk management insurance provided.
Local transportation costs covered (Toronto transit pass).

Housing:  Housing provided. Team will live together in an apartment in Jane-Finch area of Toronto.

Salary: 100 Canadian dollars per week
