Position description: attention to project management, weekly accounting and data-entry, filing and organizing, newsletters and other communications with our clients, donors and target market.
Essential job tasks and
responsibilities:
General office: filing, bookkeeping, receiving and processing registrations for events, support tasks for events, newsletter printing and mailing, admin support for Board of Trustees, donor database entry, gift thanks and year-end summary reports, re-organizing the office and 5 years of files
Project oversight: work with annual bike ride fundraising event: recruiting sponsors, acquiring door prizes, placing advertising, printing and distributing brochures and t-shirts, supporting planning team, processing registrations, provide support services day of event
Promotion: web design (optional), building database of potential clients, create display/exhibit materials for church conventions, media relations
Ambassador: among churches, and within the neighborhood
Mission description: UrbanSpirit is a non-denominational church in a challenged urban neighborhood, focused on poverty education. That is, rather than trying to convert people to a particular kind of faith, we help people who are not poor, and who already claim a faith, to explore the reality of life at the poverty line in America in the context of faith. We work with community agencies, welcome groups from all over the country, hold regular book groups, conduct training events – all to bring new perspectives and make good neighbors.

Description of program location:
Portland is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Louisville, where urban development and white flight have taken a toll. Its residents are a mix of black and white; they are mostly poor. There are a variety of agencies that provide services to the residents; there are almost no mainline congregations left. We are about 2 miles from downtown Louisville, close to all sorts of entertainment, and accessible by interstate to all of Louisville. Facilities include: church building w/ dorms; retreat house; one-BR apartment on-site.
